Hey Reader,

It's my pleasure and privilege to have Ramli John ⭐️ as my next guest this evening, to talk about how to make the onboarding experience something that actually helps the users.

I said something that actually helps the users because I am frustrated by the friction many tools deliberately create and push me away instead of making me do the things I wanted to do.

So please, share this event with someone you know can benefit from.

I met Ramli sometime in 2018 at a workshop he was hosting in Toronto. He soon launched a podcast and started doing more online activities; I've followed him, subscribed to his newsletters, bought his books and, most importantly, applied (successfully) some of his teachings.

If you're in product, marketing or a similar role, you might want to attend this session. Seats are limited. Oh, and Ramli has a new book of which he'll give away a free copy to one of the attendees. I will match that and give one copy of his book as well.

As I plan to have this newsletter be more general, I started writing more on my LinkedIn blog. Aiming to share daily logs, covering marketing (ads, creatives, etc.) to art, sports, mentorship, coaching, business, leadership and whatever's worth making our lives better. Here's the link to Em's Logs.

For the song of the day...

Everyone has their hype songs that they listen to before something goes down: speaking at an event, going into a meeting with a client/investor, date, you name it. I have a few. I was listening to one of those last week while walking into the office on my last day (more on that in a different newsletter). I told myself I should film some stuff so I did. When you film, the whatever is playing in the background stops - and since I have a short memory, when I hit stop after a minute of filming, I was hit by Montserrat Caballé's powerful voice.

Out of this world, where she was about to send me. Nevertheless.... best song from any Olympics, ever!

Share of Search Explained: Why It Matters (and How to Measure Yours)

This is an interesting article - and an exercise many don't do. If you never did - or did it many years ago, take this opportunity to do a fresh share of search research on for your site/brand.

Is Google killing the open web, and lying about it?

I admit that is a strange question, but this article I found presents empirical data to show both hyperbolic ideas in the headline might be true.

Will this allow Perplexity to really break Google's search dominance?

This being an API that provides access to PerplexityAI from programs other than the Perplexity webpage or browser. It's on a pay as you go model based on API credits, some of which come with a Perplexity Pro subscription and can also be purchased separately. This COULD work, if it's cheap enough.

Can we trust people who use AI too much?

The title is intentionally satire, but a recent study shows using AI increases unethical behavior as it create a "convenient moral distance between people and their actions". It's bad enough that AI consumes enormous amounts of power and cooling, but now it consumes our sense of morality too?

Are there privacy concerns with a Judge's order that Google share it's search date?

A remedy (and maybe THE remedy) of the recent Google antitrust search trial (not to be confused with the Google antirust advertising trial) is that Google will share it's search data with some competitors. Will it contain who searched for what? Apparently so. Who will it be shared with? We don't yet know.
