2025 Blogging Statistics: Blogger Data Shows Trends and Insights Into Blogging

I can't believe it's been 12 years since this study was published by Andy C from Orbit Media. I am happy to participate each time, but I find it extremely useful to read it each time. First, to confirm some of the things that I see, things such as a blog post take a minimum of 4h (minimum) to produce, but it still brings results. Inevitably, AI comes into the conversation, as it has significantly reduced the time it takes to produce one. PS, there are some who reported they don't use AI - and as someone quoted in the survey asks... "WHO ARE THEY?"

Apparently, AI search creates fake links

An Ahrefs study shows that AI assistants send users to broken web pages nearly three times more often than Google Search.

So please get in the habit of clicking links in AI summaries, at the very least to see if they're real.

Apple and Google working together to challenge OpenAI?

If this reporting is accurate, Apple is going to launch a Google powered AI search engine to rival ChatGPT. What this means for the SEO industry will unfold in time.

A judge ruled Google practices an illegal monopoly, but should not be stopped?

In what seems like a strange legal ruling, the Judge overseeing the Google antirust case about search (not to be confused with the Google antirust case about advertising) ruled that Google does indeed operate an illegal monopoly, then later ruled this should not be meaningful constrained.

Seriously.

Are brand mentions the new backlinks of AI powered search?

Probably yes and no. Yes in that they seem to be increasingly important. No in that they seem to be supplementing high-quality backlinks, not replacing them.

I think this is another situation where hype is leading reality. The article below shows a tweet that contains "While Google counts links, AI counts conversations".

To see the issue with that framing, just ask "What does Google AI count?".
